Captain William R. K. Davidson is currently on staff at Headquarters Marine Corps Health Services as the Dental Officer of the Marine Corps in Washington, D.C.
A native of Littlefield, Texas, Captain Davidson received his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1987 and Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1991. He was commissioned on active duty in July 1991.
Captain Davidson's first duty station was 2d Dental Battalion, Camp Lejeune, as an Assistant Dental Officer. While there, he deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, for four months in support of Joint Task Force 160, Operation Sea Signal. Continuing operationally, he transferred to 21st Dental Company, Kaneohe Bay, in 1995 as an Assistant Dental Officer.
In 1998, Captain Davidson reported to Naval Dental Center, Great Lakes, where he completed a one-year Advanced Clinical Program in Exodontia. He then attended the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College at Quantico, Virginia, completing the curriculum in June 2000.
Captain Davidson then accepted orders to 13th Dental Company, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, for duty as Oral Surgery Department Head. Returning to North Carolina in July 2002, he reported for duty with 2d Dental Battalion, Camp Lejeune. While at Camp Lejeune, Captain Davidson served in numerous duties including Oral Surgery Department Head, Branch Dental Clinic Osborne; Head of Operational Planning in support of deployment for Operation Iraqi Freedom; Clinic Director and Oral Surgery Department Head, Branch Dental Clinic Marine Corps Air Station New River; and Director for Clinical Services. In addition, Captain Davidson volunteered to deploy in 2003 with Charlie Surgical Company as the Officer in Charge of its Dental Detachment in support of combat operations during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He deployed to Iraq again in February 2005 as the Dental Detachment Officer in Charge in support of Multi-National Forces West, Al Anbar Province.
In June 2006, Captain Davidson reported to Fort Sam Houston to attend the Army Baylor Graduate Program in Health and Business Administration where he earned a Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration. He transferred to National Naval Medical Center in July 2007, where he completed the residency phase of his program. Follow on assignments included Assistant Director Primary Care and Branch Health Clinics and Assistant Director for Public Health Services. In June 2010, Captain Davidson returned to San Diego to serve as the Director for Dental Services, Naval Medical Center San Diego. In May 2012, Captain Davidson reported to Naval Health Clinic Corpus Christi where he assumed the duties and responsibilities of Executive Officer. On July 18, 2014, Captain Davidson accepted Command of U.S. Naval Hospital Sigonella, and its Branch Health Clinics at Naval Support Activities Souda Bay and Bahrain. His Change of Command was 09 August 2016, culminating a successful command tour.
Captain Davidson's personal awards include the LTJG Weedon E. Osborne Leadership Award, Fleet Marine Force Warfare (Officer) Pin, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (three), Navy Commendation Medal (three), Navy Achievement Medal (three), Army Achievement Medal, and numerous unit citations and campaign ribbons.
