Influence Operations Specialists enable the Marine Corps to understand and ultimately achieve effects within the information environment. Influence Marines primary responsibilities lie within Military Information Support Operations (MISO) and Civil-Military Operations (CMO). MISO are planned actions focused on influencing foreign target audiences and ultimately achieving a behavior change. CMO are conducted across the full spectrum of military operations, from peacetime engagement through major combat operations. When conducting CMO, commanders may employ a number of military capabilities and engage different indigenous populations and institutions to include intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations and/or host nation organizations. Influence Marines research and determine effective methods of influencing foreign audiences from a variety of information sources. Influence Marines operate and maintain a variety of message dissemination equipment and operate as part of a larger effort or independently in small teams.
