Risk Management Directorate

The Risk Management Directorate (RMD) was established as a new senior directorate, realigning the CMC Safety Division as the RMD Safety Division and the Marine Corps Directorate of Analytics & Performance Optimization (MCDAPO) as the Division of Analytics & Performance Optimization (DAPO). This organizational framework modernizes Marine Corps risk management and safety functions in direct support of readiness, force preservation, and operational resilience, in alignment with the Commandant’s priorities.

RMD supports Marine Corps readiness by developing policy, enforcing standards, reducing risk exposure, and enabling risk-informed decision making to mitigate fatalities, injuries, and material losses. RMD serves as the Commandant’s principal staff directorate for safety risk management policy, program oversight, and enterprise-wide data analytics.

The Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps is the Designated Agency Safety and Health Official for the Marine Corps. The RMD Director serves as the Service Safety Chief and provides direct support to the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps in implementing safety and standardization policy and managing the Marine Corps Safety Management System (MCSMS).

Coordination functions of RMD

• Serves as the Service Safety Representative to the Joint Safety Council, coordinating with other Department of War (DoW) headquarters service safety organizations on mutual areas of interest.

• Serves as the Service Safety Representative to the Defense Safety Oversight Council Integration Group.

• Represents the Marine Corps on safety-related matters with allies and partner nations, as appropriate.
