Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus presented the Navy Cross to Donna Ouellette, mother of fallen Marine Cpl. Michael W. Ouellette, on behalf of her son in a ceremony in Manchester, N.H., Nov. 10, 2010. Ouellette was killed after an improvised explosive device detonated underneath him while he was patrolling in Helmand province, Afghanistan, March 22, 2009. Ouellette continued to lead his squad by directing fire from his riflemen and calling in the ambush over the radio. Moffett, received the radio transmission and described Ouellette’s actions as selfless and heroic.
