Nation’s Largest Military Women’s Conference Goes Virtual to Support Women Who Serve

 The 2020 Joint Women’s Leadership Symposium (JWLS) has been reformatted to a 12-week webinar series.  These webinars will provide professional development opportunities for military service members and veterans.  The virtual series replaces the in-person JWLS scheduled for September 2020 in Norfolk, VA.  The free webinar series will kick off August 10 with an introduction and chance to meet the Sea Service Leadership Association (SSLA) Board and learn more about the organization and the JWLS.  The series will continue through December 2020, covering topics such as finance, leadership, work/life balance, and policy.  Registration will open one week before each webinar, giving service members the option to join for one or all sessions.  Regular updates will be posted on the SSLA’s website: https://www.sealeader.org/jwls  and the JWLS's social media channels.

Information Environment Advanced Analytics Course:  DoD’s only Joint-certified graduate-level course focused on intelligence support to operations in the Information Environment (IE).  Attendees will engage in class discussion and practical exercises to characterize, forecast, target, wargame and asses the IE, according to the Joint Planning Process.  Please note this is a rigorous course, all candidates will be required to attend and participate in all sessions. Course includes a comprehensive oral exam, seminar style discussions, and group presentations. Initial DCI PILOT course with limited seating will be held in Stafford, VA  21 SEP-2 OCT, with a larger second course planned for OCT. Submit candidates to IWD NLT 12 AUG (03-05, GS/GG 12-14).

Data Science Certification: The Naval Postgraduate School is pleased to announce it will offer its next cohort of the accredited, Data Science Certificate, beginning Winter Quarter AY2021. The Data Science Certificate is a one year Master’s degree level academic certificate consisting of four courses. The four courses will be delivered "live" through Video-Tele Conferencing medium, one course per quarter for one year. Courses in this cohort will be delivered on Wednesdays from 1400 – 1700 eastern time.  The program is open to all uniformed military personnel, federal civilian employees, and a very limited number of defense industrial contractors. All applicants must have earned a Bachelor’s degree. To be selected for admittance applicants must demonstrate a sufficient background in  Mathematics, Probability, Regression, and a Programming Language to meet the prerequisites of the four courses.  Click here for more information.

Professional Writing support: During the two-day course employees will learn to compose, review, edit, and issue written materials for a diverse audience. Participants will learn how to use appropriate tone, avoid a passive voice and develop a strong call to action. Additionally, participants will leave with the knowledge to properly contextualize and order information for maximum impact.  Dates 27-28 AUG, contact IWD to register.
