Bio

 Rear Admiral Pachuta assumed the duties of Director, Health Services, Headquarters Marine Corps and Medical Officer of the U.S. Marine Corps in January 2016. 

Promoted to Rear Admiral in October 2013, he served as Director, Medical Resources, Plans and Policy, OPNAV N0931 from September 2013 to December 2015.

Rear Adm. Pachuta’s senior executive medicine assignments include: Executive Assistant to the Surgeon General of the Navy from August 2012 to September 2013; Commanding Officer, U.S. Naval Hospital Yokosuka and principal medical advisor to the Commander, Navy Region/Naval Forces Japan from July 2010 to July 2012; Executive Officer, U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa July 2008 to June 2010; and Officer-in-Charge, Naval Branch Health Clinic Mayport Florida from August 2006 to October 2007.

His executive operational assignments include: Deputy Commander, Joint Medical Group / Deputy Surgeon, JTF Guantanamo and Officer-in-Charge of the Detention Hospital from January to June 2008; Commanding Officer, 3d Dental Battalion/USNDC Okinawa from July 2004 to July 2006; Executive Officer, 2d Dental Battalion/Naval Dental Center Camp Lejeune from August 2002 to July 2004 where he deployed with 2D FSSG in February 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

He served as the Senior Dental Officer in USS Enterprise (CVN 65) from July 1998 to July 2000 and deployed with Enterprise Battle Group participating in Operations Desert Fox and Southern Watch, and support of NATO operations in the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas. Additional operational and overseas assignments include: 2d Dental Company, Camp Lejeune, NC from July 1985 to July 1988 with assignment to MSSG-26, supporting 26th MAU (SOC) deployed in USS Inchon (LPH 12); USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) from April 1989 to May 1991with deployment in support of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm; 3d Dental Battalion/USNDC Okinawa from July 1994 to July 1996; and U.S. Naval Dental Center Guam/Branch Dental Clinic Guam from July 1996 to July 1998.

Pachuta is a native of Beckley, West Virginia and a 1985 graduate of the West Virginia University School of Dentistry.  He completed residency training in Comprehensive Dentistry at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda in July 1994 and concurrently earned a Master of Science degree in Health Sciences from The George Washington University.  

In July 2000 he returned to the Naval Postgraduate Dental School where he served as Chairman of the General Dentistry Department, Chairman for Military Dentistry and provided dental support to the Presidential Support Team. 

Pachuta received the American Hospital Association, 2011 Federal Health Care Executive of the Year Award for Excellence.  He is as a Diplomate of the Federal Services Board of General Dentistry, Board Certified by the American Board of General Dentistry, and is recognized as a Fellow in the International College of Dentists and a Fellow in the American College of Dentists. He maintains professional memberships in the American College of Healthcare Executives, the American Dental Association, the Academy of Operative Dentistry and the Academy of General Dentistry. His personal awards include the Legion of Merit (three awards), Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (two awards) and various campaign and unit awards. He is designated as a Surface Warfare Medical Department Officer and a Fleet Marine Force Qualified Officer.
