Hurley's Restaurant here in New York played host to the First Annual Commanding General's reception as part of Fleet Week activities.
Major General John G. Castellaw, top statesman for the Marines here during Fleet Week and commanding general of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, hosted the function as a way to say "thank you" to the top organizers of this week-long function celebrating the Navy and Marine Corps team.
"This city has been great to us this week," said Major Gen. Castellaw. "This is just one of the ways we have to say thank you to the people who helped to put this together."
The list of attendees included local dignitaries, military officials, and prominent officials of the New York area.
"I'm glad we could do this for everyone," said Col. Robert Donahue, commanding officer of the Special Marine Air Ground Task Force put together for this year's Fleet Week celebration. "This week has been great and this event was a good way to show our appreciation."
Donahue, a Lowell Mass. Native, spoke of the performance of the Marines under his command during Fleet Week 2003.
"The Marines have done an outstanding job this week in everything we have asked them to do," said Donahue. "I could not have asked more of them. I'm so proud."
