ARLINGTON, Va. -- It’s flashy, effective and says “Marines” in big bold letters on the back. For those who don’t already own one, the Corps’ running suit deadline is right around the corner.
According to the Marine Corps Uniform Board, leathernecks need to submit a request for the Corps’ newest physical training uniform by Sept. 30.
It’s the dress uniform of physical training, said Sgt. James S. Powell a platoon sergeant for supply, Headquarters and Service Battalion, Headquarters Marine Corps.
Marines can submit their running suit request through www.kyloc.com/usmc. Once online, click individual order at the top of the page and follow the on-screen instructions. If a Marine does not submit a request by Sept. 30, they will have to go through Marine Corps Systems Command.
Marines must keep in mind that it takes around two to three weeks from the day the suit is ordered to reach supply warehouses. Replacement suits will cost $128 and be available at most uniform shops.
“Taking care of the new running suit is a pretty big deal, because compared to the cost to replace the other PT gear it’s expensive,” said Lance Cpl. Anthony Sullivan, motor transport and quality control at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Arlington, Va.
The running suit, which entered the Corps’ wardrobe in 2009, has antimicrobial lining to help prevent odor with back and underarm vents to keep individuals cool. The jacket can also be worn on leave and liberty. However, Marines must keep it zipped up at least halfway.
“It has a solid looking design that isn’t too garish and cheesy, its right where it needs to be,” Powell said.
