KABUL, Afghanistan -- The commanding general for Marine Forces Central Command and I Marine Expeditionary Force made a visit to his deployed Marines today – only a month after taking charge of MarCent and I MEF.
Marine Lt. Gen. Samuel T. Helland arrived in Afghanistan yesterday with Marine Brig. Gen. David C. Garza, the MarCent deputy commanding general, as well as senior enlisted advisors Marine Sgt. Maj. Dennis W. Reed and Command Master Chief Raphael Sanchez. While in country, the MarCent leaders fit lunch in with Marines from Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan and International Security Assistance Forces at Camp Eggers in Kabul.
Helland introduced himself as the new MarCent commander and spoke to the Marines about Corps accomplishments, manpower growth, and reenlistment opportunities.
He told the Marines, “You’re all doing well, according to everything I’ve heard,” and concluded by thanking the Marines for their work in Afghanistan.
