20th annual Fleet Week begins in New York

The Big Apple's 20th annual Fleet Week kicked off with a parade of ships through the Hudson Bay to the west side of Manhattan on Wednesday.

Fleet Week is a week-long celebration of the U.S. sea services. Thousands of Marines, sailors and coastguardsmen participate each year.

Leathernecks from the Camp Lejeune, N.C.-based 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit sailed with the amphibious assault ship Wasp for events scheduled across the five boroughs t hrough May 30, when the ships are scheduled to depart.
