NEW YORK -- Former Marine Cpl. John M. Laguna (right) is the President and C.E.O. of New Era Veterans, Inc. (NEV) in Bronx, N.Y. The veteran's residence opened in 1994 to house formerly homeless veterans.
The 4-story building includes 150 units for single room occupancy, as well as a library, computer center, exercise room, garden, and pool table. NEV provides case management, crisis intervention, stress reduction therapy, and employment counseling for their residents, along with other services. Ruth M. Shaffer, Ph.D (left) directs psychological services for residents.
