MCAGCC, Twentynine Palms, Calif. -- The Marine Corps Exchange is rewarding hard-working 6th- through 12th-grade students for the second year in a row with its "Rewards for Grades" program. Marine Corps Community Services' authorized patrons who earn an overall "B" average on their report card can take their grades to the Exchange and draw a scratch-off card. "We already have one student this year that won a $1,000 U.S. savings bond," said Aurora Johnson, assistant retail manager. "The least amount a student can win is a $5 gift certificate." At the end of each grading period, a B or higher report card could earn CDs, Quicksilver clothing, phone cards, cameras and more. Warrant Officer Ernesto T. Pangan, head of retail services, said his children do well on their own, but the program is a great incentive to better their grades. His 12-year-old son Ernesto Pangan III's ticket earned a $5 gift certificate, while his son Ryuta, 11, got an AT&T 50-unit phone card. "We are encouraging as many students as possible to take advantage of this program. Headquarters Marine Corps is working hard on this program and is making sure it's well advertised, but we'd still like to see more involvement," added Johnson.
