HEADQUARTERS MARINE CORPS, Washington, DC -- The Marine Corps' Semper Fit program is seeking resumes for the All-Marine Chess Team. Resumes will be accepted through close of business July 9, 2001. Six Marines will be chosen to compete in the interservice chess competition August 17-24, at Fort Myer, Virginia.
"This is our chance to stand out once again from the other Services; to show what Marine Corps tactics and ingenuity can do against formidable foes (our sister services) and possible to go on and play against the NATO Forces," said Staff Sgt. John Farrell, a Virginia and Washington D.C. Marine Corps chess team coordinator. "We need all Marine Corps chess players that have an established United States Chess Federation rating to come forward and submit a resume for selection for the All-Marine Team."
Three finishers from each service will compete in the international military chess tournament in San Remo, Italy slated for
late September to early October.
Resumes should be submitted with the following information: name
(last, first, mi), rank (by title, i.e. captain, sergeant), current
Duty assignment, email address, military address (organization,
Unit, state, P.O., APO, and zip code), duty station, duty telephone
number (commercial and DSN), United States Chess Federation membership card identification, number and state of registration, USCF rating, date of rating, and record of significant chess activity during the past two years (provide date, place, event, and standing).
Packages must contain a command endorsement stating the Marine will be made available to attend all events if selected, and should be sent through the local Marine Corps Community Services' Semper fit office for coordination.
