Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman Gabriel Michaels is a native of Mayfield Heights, Ohio. He graduated from Shaker Heights High School in 1999 and enlisted in the United States Navy on August 7th, 2002, from Mentor, Ohio. Following completion of Recruit Training, he attended Naval Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes, Illinois.
His first assignment was to the Naval Hospital Great Lakes, Illinois where he was stationed from March 2003 to December 2004. Following completion of Field Medical Service School- East, he was then assigned to the 4th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, Anti-Terrorism Battalion in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he was a Plank Owner and completed one deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2005 to May 2006.
His follow-on duty stations include Plank Owner of the James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in Great Lakes, Illinois with an augmentation to 2nd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from January 2009 to January 2010. After this tour, he attended the Independent Duty Corpsman “C” School and graduated With Honors in April 2012. Upon graduation, he was assigned to the 2nd Marine Division in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina where he completed a deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom with 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion from October 2012 to May 2013, and to the United States Embassy in Tripoli, Libya with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment from December 2013 until the emergency evacuation of all personnel in July 2014.
In May 2015, he transferred to the Naval Health Clinic Quantico, Virginia where he was assigned as the Independent Duty Corpsman and Leading Petty Officer of the David R. Ray Branch Health Clinic supporting The Basic School at Quantico, completing a deployment aboard the USNS COMFORT (T-AH 20) in support of disaster relief to Puerto Rico from October to November 2017. He was then assigned as Independent Duty Corpsman and Executive Department Leading Chief Petty Officer aboard USS LEYTE GULF (CG-55) from August 2018 to September 2021, completing a deployment to 5th and 6th fleet from April 2019 to January 2020. Upon transferring to Navy Medical Readiness and Logistics Command, Detachment Fort Detrick, Maryland he was assigned as CRUDES AMAL manager and Senior Enlisted Leader. His current assignment is Headquarters Marine Corps, Washington DC, where he currently is the Independent Duty Corpsman Program Manager for the Marine Corps supervising 331 enlisted health care providers across the globe.
His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with three gold stars in lieu of 4th award, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars in lieu of 4th award, the Combat Action Ribbon with two gold stars in lieu of 3rd award, and various campaign and unit awards
