General Bradford J. Gering
Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps

General Gering assumed the duties of Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps in October 2025.

A native of Smithtown, New York, he graduated from Binghamton University and was commissioned in May 1989. Upon completion of flight training, he was designated an AV-8B Harrier pilot.

General Gering served in the operating forces supporting Operations SOUTHERN WATCH, IRAQI FREEDOM I, UNIFIED ASSISTANCE, and IRAQI FREEDOM 05-07 with Marine Attack Squadron 311 (VMA-311), the Aviation Combat Element for two 15th Marine Expeditionary Units, VMA-214, and III Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF).

General Gering's staff tours include AV-8B Instructor with Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1 (MAWTS-1), Aviation Lieutenant Colonel's Monitor and Aviation Assignments Section Head, Global Force Management Plans Officer with the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Personnel and Readiness), and Marine Military Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy.

As a general officer, he served in various capacities, including Deputy Commandant for Aviation, Deputy Director, J3, United States Africa Command, Assistant Deputy Commandant for Aviation, Deputy Commander, U.S. Marine Corps Forces Command, and Deputy Commander, Fleet Marine Forces Atlantic.

General Gering has commanded at every level, from VMA-211, MAWTS-1, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, and I MEF.

General Gering holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and History from Binghamton University and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National Defense University.

His personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal with Oak Cluster, Legion of Merit with Gold Star, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Gold Stars, Air Medal with Combat V and Numeral 8, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with 3 Gold Stars.
