Col Kristin L. McCann

Col Kristin L. McCann attended Virginia Polytechnic and State University.  Upon graduation, she attended Officer Candidate School; she was commissioned a second lieutenant on Aug. 18, 1995.

McCann graduated from The Basic School in Quantico, Va., in 1996 and was assigned as the adjutant, personnel officer and legal officer for 2nd Maintenance Battalion, 2nd Force Service Support Group, Camp Lejeune, N.C. During this tour, she was attached to Marine Expeditionary Unit Service Support Group 24 and deployed multiple times in support of Landing Forces Sixth Fleet deployments.

In 2001, McCann attended Amphibious Warfare School in Quantico, after which she was assigned to the Marine Corps Operational Test and Evaluation Activity. In 2003, she reported to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit and deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Landing Force Fifth and Sixth Fleet. In December 2005, she was assigned as the adjutant, Marine Corps Installations East, until receiving orders to The Basic School, where she was assigned as the adjutant and instructor.

In 2009, McCann was assigned to 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing and deployed as the assistant chief of staff for administration in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from March 2010 through March 2011. While deployed, she was selected for the Congressional Fellowship Program.

In 2011, McCann reported to the Office of Legislative Affairs, Headquarters Marine Corps, and was detailed to the office of Sen. Kay Hagan. Upon completion of the fellowship, in January 2013, McCann reported to Manpower Management, Manpower and Reserve Affairs, as the branch head for senior leader management where she served until August 2015.

In September 2015, McCann assumed command of the Fourth Recruit Training Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina, where she served until 21 July 2017. 

McCann reported to the office of the Inspector General of the Marine Corps and was assigned as the deputy director for assistance and investigations, and later served as the director.  Following reorganization of the office, Col McCann assumed her current duties as the Chief of Staff.
