CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

(If applying for a specialty position, additional conditions may apply)

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You must meet medical standards for police officers in DoD 6055.05M and NMCPHC-TM-OM 6260.
  • You must carry firearms and pass all weapons qualifications prior to assigned duties and responsibilities and must pass all requalification as required.
  • You must pass a sanctioned physical agility test (Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test/Combat fitness Test if applying for SRT), medical evaluation, and pass periodic re-test as required (see below for events and scoring)
  • You must pass all sanctioned job compatibility/psychological examination.
  • You must pass a National Agency Check and local background check.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
  • You must possess a current valid United States driver's license and be able to maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator's license.
  • You must be 18 years of age. You must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps Orders/policies to include tattoos.  (See below for requirements)
  • As first responders to chemical/biological attacks, you must be able to train and wear personal protective equipment to include mask, suit, boots, and gloves.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

**Completion of the following during the hiring process to receive Final Job Offer:

  • Background investigation (OPM interim investigation and Police Applicant Suitability Review)

  • Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-II)
  • Physical Health Examination
  • Body Mass Index compliance (explained below)

**Complete the following upon accepting Job Offer:

  • Attend and graduate the Marine Corps Police Academy’s Basic Police Course (or receive waiver).
  • Physical Agility Test during the academy (Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test and Combat Fitness Test if applying for SRT)
  • Body Mass Index compliance

**Complete the following on a semi-annual or annual basis:

During first two years of employment (probationary period) this will be required semi-annually:

  • Physical Agility Test during (Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test and Combat Fitness Test if applying for SRT) 
  • Body Mass Index compliance

After the probationary period is complete this will be required annually:

  • Physical Agility Test during (Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test and Combat Fitness Test if applying for SRT)

PAT events:

  • 300 Meter Run
    • removed after completion of probationary period

    • extended time limit or walking option after completion of probationary period

PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST/COMBAT FITNESS (PFT/CFT)
(SRT positions only)

PFT events (to be completed annually between Jan 1 and Jun 30):

  • Dead-hang pull-ups with no time limit or push-ups within 2 minutes
  • Crunches within 2 minutes
  • 3-mile run
  • If over the age of 46 option for 5000m row

CFT events (to be completed annually between Jul 1 and Dec 31):

  • 880-yard run
  • Ammunition Can Lift
    • a repetitive lift of a 30-pound ammunition can from shoulder height to overhead in a two-minute time limit
  • Maneuver Under Fire
    • 300-yard shuttle run that includes a variety of tasks
      • Crawling
      • buddy drag/carry
      • running with ammunition cans
      • grenade throw into designated target area
      • agility running

Note:  Points are received based on age for each event of the PFT and CFT.  Event points are then totaled for an overall score and all MCLEP Officers in SRT positions are required to maintain a total score in the 1st class range of scoring

BODY MASS INDEX

Height and Weight Standards are age neutral. Marine Corps Police Officers are required to meet and maintain the height and weight standard throughout their employment. The acceptable BMI height and weight standard is 29.99 maximum. Athletes may have a high BMI due to muscularity rather than increased body fatness.  Generally, those with significant musculature will have a BMI in the overweight range (from 25.0 to 29.9), but this does not necessarily indicate that an individual is overweight since the BMI is designed for an “average person." 

To avoid eliminating possible Marine Corps Civilian Police Officers who possess exceptional muscle mass, those who are not in compliance with BMI may have their body fat determined using the “circumference-based method”. If body fat is 22% or less for males and 30% or less for females, then the individual will be considered in compliance with the BMI standard

TATTOO POLICY

  • Full, half and quarter sleeve tattoos, are authorized
  • Marine Corps Police Officers shall not have any visible tattoos on the head (including face, scalp, and inside mouth), neck, hands, or fingers.  The neck includes any portion above the crew neck t-shirt. A single band tattoo of no more than 3/8 of an inch in width on one (1) finger is the exception to the restriction of tattoos on the fingers. Permanent make up for women is another exception as long as it complements the individual's complexion tone and is not exaggerated or faddish.
  • Prohibited tattoos are those that present an unprofessional appearance and are inconsistent with Marine Corps’ values and standards of conduct.  Prohibited tattoos include images or words that are obscene, rude, sexist, racist, vulgar, anti-American, anti-social, gang related, extremist group or organization related, or are associated with illegal drugs, drug usage, or drug paraphernalia.
  • All applicants will complete and sign a tattoo letter explaining and providing pictures of their tattoos.
