Sergeant Major (SgtMaj) Spencer E. Scott, a native of Anchorage, Alaska entered the Marine Corps in August 1993 and completed recruit training at MCRD San Diego, California. After completing Marine Combat Training and the School of Infantry, he was assigned the MOS 0311, Rifleman.

    In February 1994, PFC Scott reported to 1st Battalion 3d Marines located at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, where he served through October 1995. During this tour, he deployed in support of bilateral training to Australia and Tonga. He also deployed to Japan, as part of the Unit Deployment Program.

    In November 1995, LCpl Scott reported to Marine Security Guard Battalion. He served as a Marine Security Guard in the following countries: Djibouti, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, and Albania.

    In December 1998, Sgt Scott reported for duty to 3d Battalion, 6th Marines located at Camp Lejeune, where he served as a Squad Leader and Guide. He deployed as a member of BLT 3/6, 22d MEU(SOC).

    Following that deployment Sgt Scott was assigned to Small Craft Company, 2d Marine Division located at Camp Lejeune, where he served as Training NCO, Coxswain, Navigator, and Section Leader. In January 2001, SSgt Scott assumed duties as the Small Craft Detachment Staff NCOIC and was attached to 2d Battalion, 2d Marines for deployment with the 24th MEU(SOC). SSgt Scott held the billets of Detachment SNCOIC and Platoon Sergeant. He participated in Operations; DYNAMIC RESPONSE, SOUTHERN WATCH, and IRAQI FREEDOM during this deployment.

    In June 2002, SSgt Scott reported to 2d Battalion, 8th Marines, located in Camp Lejeune, where he served as a Platoon Sergeant. Deploying twice, SSgt Scott supported Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and 26th MEU(SOC).

     In August 2006, GySgt Scott reported to Marine Corps Embassy Security Group, where he served as a Detachment Commander in the following countries: Uganda and Netherlands.

    GySgt Scott received orders to 2d Battalion, 9th Marines, located in Camp Lejeune in July of 2009. GySgt Scott served as Heavy Weapons Platoon Sergeant until he was promoted to the rank of First Sergeant. Following his promotion (1stSgt), he held billets as Company First Sergeant for Fox, Weapons and Headquarters Company. Deploying twice, 1stSgt Scott participated in Operations ENDURING FREEDOM 1-0 and 1-1.

    1stSgt Scott reported to Motor Transport Instruction Company, Marine Corps Detachment Fort Leonard Wood, in February of 2013 and assumed the duties as the Company First Sergeant. 1stSgt Scott was selected for Sergeant Major and frocked in January of 2015.

    SgtMaj Scott reported to the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training, New River, in January of 2015 for assignment as the Squadron Sergeant Major.

    In April of 2017, SgtMaj Scott reported to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 263, Marine Corps Air Station New River for assignment as the Squadron Sergeant Major. During this tour he deployed in support of Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Force Crisis Response Africa 18.2 as the Aviation Combat Element Sergeant Major.

    Reporting to 3d Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan in October of 2018, SgtMaj Scott assumed the billet as the Headquarters Battalion Sergeant Major. He participated in KAMANDAG 3, a joint combined operation including Philippine, Japanese, and U.S. militaries, as the 3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade Sergeant Major.

    In July 2020 Sgt Major Scott reported to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, for assignment as the Unit Sergeant Major. During this tour he participated in two patrols.

    Reporting to his current billet as the Sergeant Major for the Inspector General of the Marine Corps in March of 2021.

    Sergeant Major Scott's personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal(5th award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal(3rd award), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal(6th award), and Combat Action Ribbon. He is married and has one son.
