Staff Sgt. Cody Rhode stands at attention after receiving a Purple Heart Medal during a formation near the battalion offices, Nov. 2. Rhode, a native of Rogers City, Mich., was shot five times during an attack in Garmsir District, Afghanistan Aug. 10. During this same attack, three Hawaii-based Marines were killed — Staff Sgt. Scott E. Dickinson, Cpl. Richard A. Rivera Jr. and Lance Cpl. Gregory T. Buckley.
