Major Shayne P. Yenzer, Executive Officer Headquarters and Service Battalion

Major Shayne Yenzer is from Washington, Missouri. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1994,  and after graduating  Boot Camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot,  San Diego, and Infantry Training Battalion (ITB), School of Infantry (SOI)-West as a basic rifleman, Lance Corporal Yenzer reported to 1st Battalion, 8th Marines (1st Bn, 8th Mar) that same year.

While assigned to 1st Bn, 8th Mar, Lance Corporal Yenzer was promoted to Corporal and Sergeant (meritoriously) and served in all enlisted billets associated with an infantry rifle platoon. He deployed with 1st Bn, 8th Mar to Okinawa, Japan in 1995 and with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) in 1997 participating in Operation SILVER WAKE in Albania and Operation GUARDIAN RETRIEVAL in Zaire. Sergeant Yenzer also deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in 1997 in support of Migrant Operations.

In 1998, Sergeant Yenzer was selected for the Marine Enlisted Commissioning Education Program and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration in December 2001. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in December 2001 and reported to The Basic School (TBS) in April 2002.

Upon graduating TBS in October 2002 and Logistics Operations School in January 2003, Second Lieutenant Yenzer reported to 1st Battalion, 2nd Marines (1st Bn, 2d Mar). While assigned to 1st Bn, 2d Mar, he served three tours in Iraq supporting Operation IRAQI FREEDOM with Task Force Tarawa, 24th MEU, and 22d MEU from 2003-2006. During that time, he was promoted to First Lieutenant and Captain and served in numerous logistics billets associated to an infantry battalion.

Captain Yenzer reported to SOI-East from 2006 to 2009 and he served as the Headquarters Company Commander, Marine Combat Training Battalion and later as the Assistant Logistics Officer, SOI-East. Subsequently in 2009, he reported to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) serving as the Assistant Logistics Officer as a Captain. He was promoted to Major in 2012 and served as the Logistics Officer for the MEU. While assigned to the 26th MEU, Major Yenzer deployed twice and supported Operation ODYSSEY DAWN/UNIFIED PROTECTOR in Libya, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, HURRICANE SANDY disaster relief operation in New York, and numerous theater security cooperation exercises across the 5th and 6th Fleet area of operations.

Maj Yenzer transferred to Logistics Operations School in 2014 where he served as the School’s Executive Officer and as the Company Commander for Combat Service Support Instructional Company. From July 2016 to June 2017, he was a student a Marine Corps Command and Staff College. Upon graduation, Major Yenzer reported to Headquarters and Service Battalion, Headquarters Marine Corps, Henderson Hall as the Operations Officer. He currently serves as the Battalion Executive Officer.

Major Yenzer is a graduate of Marine Corps Command and Staff College, the Army’s Combined Logistics Captain’s Career Course, Expeditionary Warfare School Distance Education Program and Command and Staff Distance Education Program. He also graduated from the University of Maryland University College with a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

Major Yenzer’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat “V” and gold star in lieu of second award, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with gold star in lieu of third award, Combat Action Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal with bronze star in lieu of second award.
