U.S. Ambassador to Afghanistan Ryan Crocker expresses his appreciation after receiving the Honorary Marine title at the International Security Assistance Force Headquarters, July 22. Crocker received the Honorary Marine title in recognition of his service with and alongside Marines throughout his 41-year career as a U.S. foreign service officer. ISAF and United States Forces – Afghanistan Commander Gen. John R. Allen presided over the ceremony where members of the U.S. Embassy in Kabul Marine Security Detachment, who nominated the outgoing ambassador for the title, presented his Honorary Marine certificate and pinned him with an Eagle, Globe and Anchor. Approved only by the Commandant of the Marine Corps, the honor recognizes individuals in the civilian community who have made extraordinary contributions to the Corps.
