Navy Chaplain Foundation, Inc. hosts two writing contests

The Navy Chaplain Foundation, Inc., announces two contests to tell the story of the religious and spiritual experiences of Sea Services personnel (Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine).
Contest A (Historical): This focuses on the history of chaplains of the U.S. Navy, serving with a unit of the Sea Services (Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine). Entries may relate to an operation in which a chaplain or Religious Program Specialist (Chaplain's Clerk) figured prominently. Not less than 3,000 words. First place award is $1,000, second place award is $500.
Contest B (Inspirational): This contest deals with a religious or spiritual experience that took place in one of the Sea Services during the Korean Conflict (1950-1953) or an event or development that generated out of an experience with or by a chaplain during that period. The entry may be based on anecdotes, including those that strike a humorous chord. Not less than 1,000 words. First place award is $500, two prizes of $250 each will also be awarded.
Authors may enter one or both contests but not with the same article.

Entries must be postmarked by 15 January 2001. Winners will be notified by 15 March 2001. Entries must be typed or word-processed in hard copy on paper 81/2" by 11," double-spaced or on disk or CD-ROM. Authors must identify their entries with name, home address, telephone number, Social Security Number, and indicate the contest being entered. Each author should include a brief description of his or her identity. All entries become the sole property of The Navy Chaplain Foundation, Inc., and may be published by the Foundation.
