Before welcoming their heroes back from a six-month deployment, voices in the crowd swelled with anticipation:

"If I sit down, I am going to cry."

"This is the happiest I’ve been my whole life."

"I can’t wait to see him."

Words became electrified shouts once the busses appeared. Tearful families and friends cheered the hundreds of Marines and sailors who had volunteered for a six-month deployment with Task Force National Capital Region.

Coming from varying occupations, the Marines served with the security force in Iraq’s Al Anbar province.
