Colonel Anthony S. Barnes, Commanding Officer Headquarters and Service Battalion

Colonel Tony Barnes hails from Pensacola, Florida and is a graduate of the University of West Florida with a B. S. in Business Management.  He joined the Marine Corps in 1990 and received his Wings of Gold at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas in December 1992.  Subsequently, he was ordered to MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina to VMGRT-253 for initial training in the KC-130.

He has served in VMGR-252, Marine Wing Support Squadron 274, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable), VMGR-352, and Marine Aircraft Group 11.  While in the fleet operational forces, his billet assignments included Flight Duty Officer, Aircrew Training Officer, Air Operations Officer, Aircraft Maintenance Officer, Detachment Officer-in-Charge, Commanding Officer of Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 352, and Executive Officer of MAG-11.

His staff duties have been as Deputy Division Chief for Capabilities and Acquisition Division, Joint Staff; Air-to-Air Refueling Coordination Requirements Officer within the Aviation Weapons Requirements Branch, Headquarters Marine Corps (HQMC); Aide-de-Camp to the Deputy Commandant for Aviation, HQMC; and Command Inspector General 3d Marine Aircraft Wing.  

 Colonel Barnes has deployed to support noncombatant evacuations in Liberia (Operation Assured Response), Central African Republic (Operation Quick Response), Sierra Leone (Operation Nobel Obelisk), and Democratic Republic of the Congo (Operation Guardian Retrieval).  Additionally, he has supported operations in Kosovo, deployed to Turkey (Operation Northern Watch), and deployed to Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom).

 Colonel Barnes has completed Aircraft Maintenance Officer School, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course, Forward Air Controller Course, Amphibious Warfare School, Marine Corps Command and Staff School, and is a 2011 graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces.  His personal decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal with numeral 4, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Gold Star as well as the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
